A 45-year-old man, simply identified as Michael Ugwuanyi, has been arrested for allegedly smashing his parents to death with a pestle at Mkporogwu, Iheakpu Awka in Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State.
According to Spokesperson of the village local vigilante command, Daniel Ndukwe, the suspect’s mother, Florence Ugwuanyi, was pounding cassava in the kitchen on Saturday, October 10, when he snatched the pestle from her and smashed her head for unknown reasons.

In a bid to prevent his father, Julius Ugwuanyi from alerting neighbours, the suspect used same pestle to also smash the old man’s head.

However, it was gathered that the suspect in order to cover his evil track, called his relations on the phone, alleging that both deceased fell sick after eating cooked beans.

News Echo correspondent also gathered from reliable sources that during investigations to unravel the true nature of the deaths, Micheal was apprehended by the Neighbourhood Watch and handed over to the police.
Meanwhile, efforts to reach the Divisional Police Officer, Iheakpu for confirmation proved abortive as at the time of filing this report.
