Imo State Governor, Senator Hope U z o d i m m a h a s inaugurated the newly constituted governing board of Imo State University. He charged them to bring the institution at par with the best across the globe.
Speaking during the inauguration at the Sam Mbakwe Executive Chambers, Imo State Government House, the governor regretted that the university which in the year 2000, ranked best state owned university and 10th among all the universities in the country has now degenerated to a very abysmal level, but expressed optimism in the pedigree of members of the new governing board to transform its fortunes.
He urged them to do their job without any form of bias or compromise, making sure all unprofessional activities that ruined the reputation of the university are expunged. He promised that government will afford them any support they need to accomplish the assignment.
“Don’t bring politics, don’t bring tribal sentiment, don’t bring religious divide, give us a citadel of learning that is worth it’s onion. With you piloting the reformation agenda of that university, the government and people of Imo State will expect nothing but the best”, he concluded. The Chairman of the governing board, His Lordship, Bishop Lucius Ugorji of Aba Catholic Diocese thanked the governor for finding them worthy for the position and promised to do their best to deliver on the mandate given to them.
Fielding questions from newsmen, a member of the board, Chief Leo Stan Eke promised that in the next few months Imo people will start witnessing their desired changes in the institution as members of the board will apply their wealth of experience to bring a total turnaround in the university.
