The Labour party Candidate for Ikeduru state constituency, Engr Sir chucks Anele has expressed displeasure over the conduct of the last Saturday’s State House of Assembly elections that took place in Imo state.
Speaking to newsmen in his Umurii Amaimo hometown, the LP candidate said the election was marred by lots of vote buying amidst voting apathy. He disclosed that the ruling All progressive party, APC engaged in lots of vote buying to ensure they win election, which is against the Electoral act.
He expressed displeasure over the activity the deputy governor of the state as he was seen parading some parts of the constituency with an armoured car and some security agents. The deputy governor was said to be harassing voters and some candidates with his security aids, also offering money to the party agents to influence the voters.
Anele disclosed further that the low turnout in the election is as a result of people not having faith INEC and the electoral process. He maintained that the masses couldn’t troop out en mass to vote as they feel their votes no longer count as was experienced during the last presidential election.
He stressed that there is need for INEC to correct its mistake and return the trust people had on its capacity to conduct free and fair elections in Nigeria.
