Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, says he has not been receiving salaries since he became governor in 2014.
Addressing the state workers at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka, Obiano said he forfeited his salaries as a sacrifice towards improving welfare of the workers, so as to ensure they could receive every allowance due to them.
He said in spite of the present economic challenges in the country, his administration had maintained prompt payment of salaries and other allowances, as well as payment of pensions and gratuity as and when due.
The governor, who was represented by the state Head of Service, Barr. Harry Udu, stated that he would embark on construction and reconstruction of more economic roads as soon as the economy improves.
“Despite the scourge and economic difficulties imposed by COVID-19 pandemic, salary alerts have been coming. The government has maintained prompt payment of salaries on the 25th of every month. All state workers will as usual receive a bag of rice each for the yuletide season”, he said.
