With less than 24 hours to the Independence Day celebration marking Nigeria as a sovereign state, the leadership of the Independent People of Biafra has renewed its call for the people of the South East states to boycott the celebration.

The call was contained in a release by its spokesperson Emma Powerful made available to media organizations. This is part of the efforts to press home its agitation for the Biafra state which it has doggedly being fighting for.

The statement further enjoined all other states in Nigeria to join the boycott because according to them freedom for one is freedom for all.

The IPOB led by Nnamdi Kanu has remained undeterred in its avowed commitment to separate the Igbo states from the entity of Nigeria because of what it called extreme marginalization which has denied Igbo opportunities to advance their creativities and natural endowments.

It would be recalled that recently the IPOB boys were attacked in Enugu where reportedly over 22 boys were dispatched to their untimely death. This development attracted wide spread condemnation nation-wide and globally.

The Enugu killing appear to have spiked up the agitation in numerous ways with the leader of the group threatening to match government action with its own action in the event of further loss of lives of its members.

Some people in sympathy with the group have expressed optimism over the coming of Biafra soon following unconfirmed reports that the group have made serious in roads in winning the support of global organizations.

There are also unconfirmed reports that the entry of a Yoruba group in the agitation for the Oduduwa nation has tensed the federal government who has been doing everything it can to ward of the Biafra fight.

Few weeks ago it was reported that a Yoruba group had protested in the streets of London where it called for the Oduduwa nation.

The call is not the first time that IPOB group is calling on the citizens of the Igbo nation to boycott some national events. May 30 is being observed yearly as birth of Biafra and they have kept faith with its remembrance.
Meanwhile, the soldiers and police have urged the people to go about their duties as usual promising to secure the nation.
