As the world celebrated the international day of democracy, Alliances For Africa (AFA) in collaboration with CISLAC and MacArthur has urged the Imo State House of Assembly lawmakers to consciously legislate on laws that will ensure inclusion of women, persons with disabilities and youths in electoral process.
Speaking during the Imo State road walk campaign to demand social inclusion of women, youths, persons living with disabilities and the vulnerable in governance, that climaxed at Imo State House of Assembly, Lilian Ibeh called on the members of the House to deliberate more on passing laws that will make the participation of women, youths, persons living with disabilities and vulnerable a right and not a privilege or favor.
She noted that there should be adequate elective representation of women, youths, persons living with disabilities and vulnerable in the House and the State, adding that the issue of treating the vulnerable as second class should be jettisoned for wholistic and all inclusive governance structure where everyone is free to participate without inhibition informed by the state of the individual.
She hinted that the lawmakers cannot conveniently make laws for the vulnerable without their inputs, especially that they know where their demand pitches them.
The Speaker, represented by the Chief of Staff, Barr. Kelechi Onyegbule however called on the women, youths, persons living with disabilities and vulnerable to get involved in politics as nobody will do it for them especially that a level playing ground has been provided by the new electoral law.
