To win fight against insecurity in Imo State, commercial motorcycle operators have been charged to shun any act of indiscipline while supporting government effort by providing valid and timely information about the whereabouts and activities of hoodlums to relevant authorities.

This charge was given by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Safety, Hon. Ugochukwu Nzekwe, during the inauguration of Prefab Motorcycle Operators Union, held at Methodist Bus Stop, along MCC Uratta road, Owerri, last week.

Stating that the combined efforts of security agents and commercial cyclists will strengthen intelligence and surveillance gathering in winning the war against crime and violence in the state. Nzekwe commended the union for being organised, saying the data of all commercial motorcycle operators within the designated routes in the area are properly captured.

He said the effort will help guarantee safety of people residing around MCC Uratta area, as anybody boarding motorcycle there will always reach their destinations safely. “If anything happens on the
way, the person knows where to report”, warning the union against being criminal syndicate, notorious for snatching bags, phones or various forms of criminality at the area.

Also speaking, CSP WetBen Daniel, from the Nigeria Police, Area Command, Owerri, advised motorcycle operators not to go contrary to the routes laid out for them, stressing that nobody will harass or arrest them if they remain law abiding.

The chairman of the newly sworn-in Prefab Motorcyclist Operators Union, Promise Anyanwu, assured that the union will partner with government in tackling security challenges in the state, adding that, “in response to the wave of insecurity bedeviling the country in recent times and in line with Uzodimma’s dream for all motorcyclists in the state to be under one umbrella, our unit has continued to be proactive through the provisions of security apron and identity card from the union.
