The Imo Commissioner of Works, Barr Raph Nwosu, has debunked the rumor by the residents of Nekede/Ihiagwa communities that work has ceased at their busy road which project got stalled at the Poly gate as at present
The Commissioner, in a telephone chat with our reporter, stated that the road construction would be terminated at the FUTO Junction as awarded.

Nwosu added that government has no intention to end the road construction at Poly Gate as speculated, saying the Nekede/Ihiagwa Road is being done in batches.
He assured that work will commence from Poly Gate by next week, urging residents to stop panicking.

Residents of Nekede and Ihiagwa, Owerri West, have earlier accused the Imo State government of failure to complete their roads as awarded to ease traffic inconveniences, damages on vehicles and the consequential costs
The residents therefore have called on Governor Hope Uzodimma to quickly complete work on the road from Naze roundabout (Aba Road), appealing that the road construction should not end at Federal Polytechnic Nekede Gate, but be extended to Ihiagwa and FUTO Junction (Port Harcourt Road).

The residents, who spoke to News Echo, last Week, who did not want their names in print, warned against playing politics with the said road, advising that drainages should be maintained as the road was being expanded to avoid flooding.

According to them, “the 14 kilometers Nekede/Ihiagwa road under construction should be quickened to ease traffic gridlock and tension. The drainages are blocked and nothing is done to put it in order. It is the hope of the people that the remaining areas be completed very fast to beat the rain which is fast approaching”.

They stressed that the ever busy road was awarded to “terminate at FUTO Junction, but they did not even cross Poly Gate. The work has to continue to Ihiagwa and Obinze. However, people are happy for the one already done.
“Governor Hope Uzodimma should please mandate the construction company handling this road to be fast to achieve the said target to enable us recover and reconcile,’’ they pleaded
