Imo Utility Commissioner inspects water schemes in Orlu, assures quality water

Commissioner for Public Utilities, Barr Tony Umezurike, has assured the people of Imo State of government’s readiness to provide regular safe water for them.

He gave the assurance during an inspection visit of ongoing rehabilitation works at Eluama and Oleme Water Schemes at Orlu local government area of Imo State, on Monday.

Umezuruike informed that the water project was being carried out by the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, under the third national urban water project of the World Bank.

Urging the people to be patient with the state government, as Governor Hope Uzodimma had the capacity to recover the state; Umezuruike added that the project was made possible as a result of the governor’s love for the people of the state, coupled with his commitment to upgrading living standard in the state. The payment of over N300million counterpart fund which qualified Imo as one of the benefiting states for the programme made the project possible

Umezuruike commended the leadership of the communities for providing adequate security for the facilities and assured them that youths of the communities would be engaged in the ongoing project.

Receiving the commissioner and his entourage, on behalf of the traditional ruler, Eze Dr. Patrick Acholonu, the traditional prime minister, Chief I.P Achi and the president general of Eluama, Hon. Eddy Olumba, expressed appreciation to Governor Hope Uzodinma for making it possible for the community to benefit from the water project.

The Commissioner was accompanied by the permanent secretary of the ministry, Lady Angela Ihenacho, Special Adviser to the governor on urban water, Hon.

Tanana Biaduo, General Manager of Imo State Water and Sewerage Corporation, Engr. Emeka Ugoanyanwu, Head of Hydrology and Hydrogeology Department of the ministry, Mr. Victor Agwunobi and other staff of the Ministry.
