Some participants at the stakeholders engagement meeting convened by Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma have described the stakeholders meeting as a step in the right direction, while commending the governor for working on infrastructures that will empower the youths.
The member representing; Okigwe, Onuimo and Isiala Mbano Federal Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Princess Miriam Onuoha called on the genuine agitators to head the plea of the governor, sheath their swords and allow government, both at the federal and state levels work towards meeting their demands.
“I want to let Imo youths know that the governor has put plans in place towards empowering the youths. The governor is trying to work on infrastructures that will empower the youths, like the power supply project which is critical for crafts and industries to thrive.
On his own, the immediate past national organizing secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Emma Ibediro said, “It is very unfortunate that we found ourselves at this level, where we have to be in an open confrontation with our own children. If things were done the way it was supposed to have been done, probably, this situation would not have arisen.
“I know as an Igbo man that a man does not fight with his children, children do not fight their parents. So whatever that has happened that brought us to this level is highly regrettable and I believe it is something we will take care of. Good enough the governor has been taking proactive steps since this issue began which I have to commend seriously”.
Ibediro commended Imo youths for their peaceful disposition in their protest and responsiveness, alluding that the violence that followed was as a result of some fifth columnists who hijacked the protest.
According to Mike Ikokwu, an industrialist and coordinator of Hopism, “The stakeholders forum is a laudable proactive approach by the governor. He has proven some people wrong and shown that he is a true Igbo leader. The youths are very happy with him. They say they have not forgotten that he was the person who saved the state from the hands of the person who wanted to convert it to his private empire and family business”.
