Imo state Police command, Wednesday, paraded suspected kidnappers of the Auxiliary Bishop of Owerri Catholic Archdiocese, Bishop Moses Chikwe.
Bishop Chikwe who was kidnapped alongside his driver, Ndubuisi Robert on December 27, 2020, was later released on 31st December 2020.
Parading the suspects, the Police Public Relations Officer of Imo State command, SP Ikeokwu Orlando, said tactical units of the state command; the anti kidnapping and quick intervention units acted in line with the mandate of the Commissioner of Police (CP) Nasiru Muhammed, and on February 28, 2021, rounded up the kidnap suspects.
He gave their names as; Peter Aluo (aka Okwudor), 28, from Ihedum Alunwa (aka iron) 31 and Osinachi Ngozi, 26, all male and hail from Awara in Ohaji/Egbema local government area of Imo State.
According to the PPRO, they all confessed to the crime and also narrated their roles in the operation, as well as another related operations. He said efforts are at advanced stage to arrest other fleeing members of the gang.
Also paraded was one Chukwuna Anyim who was arrested for making plans to kidnap his employer, one Mrs. Okoroafor a school principal and owner of the property where the said Chukwuemeka Anyim works as security guard. He said the suspect on interrogation, confessed to the crime of plotting to abduct the woman, adding that investigation was ongoing.
The state command also used the opportunity to parade, one Emmanuel Ogbonna of Amazuo village of Oguta for allegedly attempting to burn down the residence of late Justice Chukwudifu Oputa.
According to the PPRO, “The suspect who claimed he was frustrated with life, as he has not been able to secure a job after graduating from the University, decided to vent his anger by razing down the building of prominent persons in his community.”He said he believes that burning down Justice Oputa’s house will attract the attention of the federal government to his plight”.
