As part of the measures to ensure a free and fair election, the Imo State command of the Nigerian Police has moved five luxury bus loads of policemen to Edo state for the Edo governorship election.
The election which comes up on Saturday, September 19, pitches the incumbent governor Godwin Obaseki of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) against Pastor Ize Iyamu who is the flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The tension soaked election has been characterized by war of words with the two candidates and their supporters laying claim to the governorship seat as they campaign round the state.

Some Imo citizens have expressed concern over the number of policemen being moved to Edo in view of the security challenges prevalent in the state.

In reaction, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO,Mr. Orlando Ikeokwu stated there is no cause for alarm because according to him they know what they are doing adding that the early movement is to take care of the logistics of reposting the men on arrival.

In his words, ”he stated that they cannot move 450 police men to Edo on the day of the election recounting that in 2017 they moved over 700 men to Ondo.”

On the possible depletion of the available hands, he indicated that it is nobody’s concern, “allow the governor of Imo State to handle that”, adding that there are over 6000 policemen in Imo State.

It was gathered that the government of Imo state has been providing enormous support to the state with the governor making several trips to the state to cross and dot all the t’s and i’s respectively in order to ensure victory for the party.
