The caretaker committee of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Imo State council has inaugurated her Elders Council to move the union forward.
Speaking during the monthly congress where the inauguration took place on Thursday, the Chairman, the caretaker committee, Comrade Precious Nwadike noted that the move was to ensure that the union draw from the wisest advise of the veterans and to ensure that the union becomes stronger again.
Members of the Eldest Council with members of NUJ caretaker committee shortly after the inauguration on ThursdayHe urged the Elders Council to continue to proffer counsel that will help to unite the warring factions of the union for a more stronger indivisible union, adding that the Elders who have played key roles to the growth and development of journalism profession would ensure that the profession is not plunged into the debris and irrelevance.
The chairman of the Elders Council and former chairman of NUJ, Imo state, Ben Osuagwu appreciated the formation of the council and assured that the Elders Council will continue to submit counsel that will keep the union together, stressing that they are stakeholders in the journalism profession.
In the same vein, the monthly congress approved that the police be written to come and investigate the vandalism and destruction of the union’s property that have made the union shadow of itself.
