The candidate of National Rescue Movement (NRM) for the Imo North senatorial bye-election, Charles Amajuoyi has advised his rivals to allow the will of God to prevail during the forthcoming polls.

Speaking to newsmen in Owerri, yesterday, Amajuoyi insisted that the October 31st scheduled election should not be seen by any candidate as a do or die exercise.

According to him, “being privileged to become a candidate of a political party for an election is a call to service and not something someone should be desperate about.”

He also admonished political parties and their candidates not to encourage the youths to indulge in activities that would jeopardize the existing peace and unity in the area.

Amajuoyi, a former lecturer with Kaduna College of Education further appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission, security agencies and other stakeholders involved in the election process to ensure a free, fair and transparent exercise.

He said, “it is obvious that some persons are desperate about this election, but I will continue to remind them that it is not a do or die thing. We must allow God’s will to prevail. Only God makes a leader.

Continuing he said, “also our people will not be cowed again on basis of sentiments or be deceived by the affluence of any candidate. We are convinced that what counts is the person’s pedigree or capacity to deliver.

“Our people are tired of failed promises and gambling with their mandate. This time around, they want solutions to their developmental plights through effective representation and leadership.”

Speaking also, Dr Mike Nze, Imo State NRM Chairman backed the move by INEC to deregister some political parties, insisting that it would help to enhance performance of the existing ones especially during elections.

He also canvassed for a bill to checkmate the establishment of political parties, saying that if such was not checked, “time will come when every Tom, Dick and Harry in this country will own a party for selfish gains.”

Asked about the chances of NRM winning the forthcoming election, Nze said, “we won election in Zamfara and FCT and we are here in Imo State to win elections. We are in touch with the youths and women of Okigwe zone and they have all agreed to massively vote for our party.”
