Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma has solicited the assistance of the ministry of communication and digital economy as well as agencies under it for the state in the areas of infrastructure, communication and digital facilities.

He said the state was highly distressed, in terms of; the infrastructural gap that has been created over time, insecurity which he said the state resources was too meager to confront, unemployment and ICT deficit.

The governor made this remark during the opening ceremony of a five day executive capacity building programme for the governing board of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), at the Protea Hotels, Owerri, Imo State, on Monday.

“I must count ourselves lucky for being in the forefront of the strategic partnership with the ministry of communication and digital economy. There is no way we will achieve the laudable programmes and policies of this administration without the partnership”.

Governor Uzodimma urged NCC to further make its presence felt in the state by remembering it in its 2020 budget and create more of its centres in tertiary institutions across the state. He promised to create the enabling environment for them and other investors to the state.
Earlier in his address, chairman, governing board of the NCC, Prof. Adeolu Akande recalled that some projects of the commission, including the emergency communication centre was barely one month ago virtually commissioned in the state.

He said the board was ready to partner the state government to harness the entrepreneurial spirit of Imo youths and disclosed that the commission has continued to set up digital/technological hubs across the country, to enable young people incubate and innovate ideas that could transform them and their environment.

Prof Akande described the NCC as an enabler for all sectors of the Nigerian Economy, disclosing that the commission has adopted a forward looking approach to regulation, with emphasis on research, capacity building, global best practices and independence, all aimed at sustaining its record of regulatory excellence.
