A group, Imolites for Good Governance has accused the Imo State government of employing delay tactics on the issue of workers who are owed many months arrears of salaries.
The accusation was contained in a press release signed by the national convener of the group, Chioma Uba and made available to News Echo.
It wondered why after several denials and verifications at the office of the Head of Service, the government has turned around to direct the workers to now submit their credentials/letters for documentation at the Ministry of Information and Strategy.
According to the release, if the government was sincere about workers’ salaries and pensions, it should have directed those yet to receive their salaries and pensions to go to their ministries or departments for documentation, rather than the Ministry of Information and Strategy.
“This is simply a delay tactics to keep denying Imo workers and pensioners their legitimate means of livelihood. This singular move will backfire as usual, because, it is the usual abracadabra synonymous with this government and Imolites won’t succumb to it any more.
The group said it would publish the first batch of the names of unpaid workers and pensioners owed between March 2020 to December 2020 in some local and national dailies.
“We urge the state government to hasten the payment of arrears of salaries and pensions to save the lives of Imo workers and pensioners who are facing untold hardships every day.
“We also believe this government shall hearken to the voice of reasoning by discontinuing with the use of contractors in pay-rolling Imo workers and pensioners.
