The Special Adviser to the State Governor on Market and Allied Matters, Chief Perry Opara, has expressed happiness over the rebuilding of the demolished Ekeukwu Owerri Market, which was erroneously demolished by the former Governor Rochas Okorocha led administration in the State.

According to him, the market was erroneously demolished and indigenes, traders were chased away, which threw away the source of income of the people.

Speaking to newsmen at the Ground breaking event of the Ekeukwu Owerri Market on Monday, by the Governor Senator Hope Uzodimma, at the Somto Medical Centre, Owerri, Chief Opara, stated that he is excited that in no less than one month in office as the SA to the Governor on Market and Allied Matters, that the demolished market has being rewarded to come back to its original position for economic activities to thrive.

The Governor’s aide lamented over the demolished market for a dead trap structure erected by the past administration.

He noted that the State Governor Senator Hope Uzodimma, has given a marching order to the developer that the market should be ready in the next 18 months for commissioning, with the resources in place and government support.

Continuing, he assured the traders who have been displaced from their shops due to the demolition that in no distant time economic activities will flourish again in a friendlier place for commerce with infrastructures vis a vis, security, pipe borne water toilet, Bank with ATM facility, provision of fire service, sick bay, among others.

Furthermore, he said the Ekeukwu Owerri market will wear a new look of an ultra modern market of International standard, that will serve the needs of people like other States like Ariaria market Abia State, Onitsha main market Anambra State, among other States in the South East, South South and beyond.

More so, he maintained that the new Ekeukwu Owerri market will have a motor park located at the old market, with cars parked not only on ground, but on floors, like the way it’s been done abroad, he asserted.
