Imo State Deputy Governor, Prof. Placid Njoku has described university alumni as an effective force in the development of any university.

Njoku stated this when he received a delegation of the Alumni Association of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Umuahia, Abia State who called on him in his office.

The deputy governor, who was the pioneer Vice Chancellor of the university, said any university with proactive alumni association enjoys much resources, technical and physical support from it, for its development.

He said their visit had evoked memories of the challenges and successes he recorded while in the university and urged members of the association to sustain their efforts, noting that they have major roles to play in the development of the university.

The deputy governor urged the alumni to keep assisting in providing learning research and technical support for the institution.

Earlier in his address, president of the alumni association, Dr. Oscar Obasi, said they were on the courtesy visit to officially congratulate Njoku on his emergence as the deputy governor of the state.

He recalled the efforts of Njoku in laying solid foundation for the growth of the university in both character and learning.

Obasi stressed that the association has continued to work towards the development of the university, as it has, among other things built and handed over part of a one-storey building secretariat for the university’s use, as well as instituted awards for the best graduating students.
