Imo CP reads riot act to tactical squads

The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, Isaac Akinmoyede has warned that commanders of tactical teams of the state police command will be held liable for any infractions of their men in the cause of their duties.

According to a press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer of Imo State Police Command, SP Ikeokwu Orlando, the warning was handed down to the commanders during a meeting the CP held with them regarding the ban and restrictions on their activities by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Muhammed Adamu.

It said a monitoring and enforcement team, headed by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of X-Squad Department, ACP Emmanuel Asufi, with the heads of the tactical teams as members, under the direct supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Rabiu Hussaini, has been set up to give effect to the directive.

Below is excerpt of the press release by Ikeokwu:

“Pursuant to the ban of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and other tactical teams from routine patrol, check points, stop and search duties etc, by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu, NPM.mni, the Commissioner of Police, Imo State, CP Isaac Akinmoyede held a meeting with all the tactical teams commanders in the state, where he reiterated the directives of the Inspector-General of Police and ordered absolute compliance to the directives by all units of the command.

“The CP urged the commanders to strictly monitor and supervise their subordinates as they will be held liable for any infraction(s) of their men.

“Furthermore, the Commissioner of Police set up a monitoring and enforcement team to be headed by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, in charge of X-Squad Department, ACP Emmanuel Asufi, with the heads of the tactical teams as members, under the direct supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Rabiu Hussaini, to give effect to the directive and complement the teams to be dispatched from Force Headquarters.
