Residents of Road 4 in Akwakuma community, Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State are currently in palpable fear as deep gully erosion has cut into two the road that connects the area with other parts of the state. This is now threatening lives and property within the area.

The Special Adviser to the governor on National Assembly and Ecological Matters, Hon Austin Nwachukwu was sent by the governor to obtain first hand information on the natural disaster.

Speaking during the inspection visit at the site of the disaster, Nwachukwu sympathized with residents of the area who he noted has been cut off from their normal daily activities. He told them that the governor, who has great concern over the incident, sent him as a forerunner and will come also to see for himself.

This is very devastating, pathetic and heart-rending, because people of this community are actually cut off from the rest of the world”.

The SA made it clear that Imo State has suffered so much in ecological disasters, reason the governor deemed it necessary to appoint him SA on ecological matters, first of its kind in the state.

“I want to urge residents of this area to have faith in the government of Senator Hope Uzodimma which will come to your rescue and as well attract federal government presence to remedy this situation, which if not checked have the potential of wiping away the community”.

The people have been so cut off to the extent that they use two ladders placed in between the bad spot from where they descend from one ladder and ascend to the other ladder before getting out of their residence.
The reporter was not able to access the residents who shouted from a distance from their buildings and urging that the governor should save their souls. The dangers suffered by them include emergencies that may result from health challenges.
