Imo State House of Assembly wants Governor Hope Uzodimma to make the Social Security Identity Number mandatory to all legitimate indigenes of the state for easy identification.
The resolution sequelled the adoption of the motion moved by Member representing Owerri North State Constituency, Hon. Kelechi Ofurum.
Moving the motion at the House Plenary Session on Tuesday, Ofurum hinted that Imo State has a big challenge with lack of Social Security Database for both the State Civil Servants and the Citizens at large.
The lawmaker emphasized that the Social Security Identity Number would act as a Unique Identification Number which he mentioned all residents of Imo State must obtain and use in every of their transaction with state government.
Ofurum, an articulate politician, pointed out that the sensitization of the last exercise was poorly carried out, hence he sought for extension of the exercise to enable those involved to adequately capture people from the hinterlands.
While noting that the Social Security Identity Number shall help to create a reliable database of residents and citizens in the state, Ofurum believes that the exercise would ensure a more inclusive government, just as it shall enable all residents to enjoy democracy values and gains.
Hence, Ofurum called on his colleagues to urge Governor Hope Uzodimma to mandate the Ministry of Digital Economy and E-Government including Imo State Data Management Centre, related agencies and parastatals to ensure full implementation of the motion, suggesting that A 5-Man Ad-hoc Committee of the House be set up to oversight the process to achieve goal.
Contributing, Member who represents Ohaji/Egbema State Constituency, Hon. Uzoma Francis Osuoha, observed that if the motion is fully implemented it would effectively guide the state government in its economic policies, as well as help to check people who come in and go out of the state.
