Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has taken delivery of a new fire fighting truck from the federal fire service, with a call on the Abia citizenry to take responsibility against fire outbreaks.
The hand over event which took place inside the Government House, Umuahia on Monday, was performed by the Comptroller General of Federal Fire Service, Alhaji Liman Ibrahim, represented by Dr Calistus Agu, Assistant Comptroller zone J of the Federal Fire Service.
The Federal Comptroller General notified the Governor that the truck would be used for the training of students in the Federal Fire Service school in Abia as well as to be used for emergency interventions during fire outbreak in the State.
Responding, Governor Ikpeazu commended the men of Federal Fire Service for the initiative while promising the support of his administration to the training school, even as he extolled their sacrifice during fire fighting duties.
Ikpeazu later inspected the new truck while the men of the federal federal fire service mounted a guards of honour for him.
Many dignitaries, including Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Mrs Georgina Ehuria, the immediate past federal permanent secretary, Ministry of Interior, Abuja etc witnessed the event.
