One of the aspirants for the position of the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Prof. George Obiozor, has declared that governance in Nigeria has posed an existential threat to the Igbo race.
Obiozor made the assertion in Owerri, Imo State capital on Monday, during a press briefing, ahead of the January 10 election of organisation.
He said the situation of Nigeria as it affects the Igbo race makes it imperative for a President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo who is an astute diplomat and can employ high level of diplomacy, as opposed to confrontation in charting the course of the race among the power brokers in the country.

He enumerated all positive attributes of the Igbo and concluded that the race is either misunderstood or envied, adding that the Igbo have been stereotyped and negatively labelled by other parts of the country.

He however, promised to work towards reversing the trend when elected the head of Ohanaeze.
Obiozor enumerated his agenda which border on security, economy, educational reinvigoration and emancipation of the Igbo race.
“Ndigbo, believe me, we can have our people fairly unified again. Many things unite us, but we have given few things that divide us priority. That is our main problem, but it can change. However, we must also once again invent a well defined common cause.

“The office of President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo is not a career, a job or a position to fulfill personal ambition. It must particularly at this moment in our history be a position that comes through inspiration and experience to navigate the Igbo destiny through precarious times of uncertainty, doubts and general insecurity”, he submitted.
