As the 2023 general election gathers momentum, former Anambra North constituency leader, Senator Alphonsus Obi Igbeke during a consultative meeting with the National Forum for South East Presidency, a politically motivated pressure group proffered practical strategies to adopt for actualization of Igbo presidency.
Senator Alphonsus Obi Igbeke, also gave his support to NFSEP objectives as advocating for an Igbo presidency of a south east extraction.
According to the Senator, having Igbo president has to do with someone who has the capacity, that capacity includes somebody who has the indepth knowledge of election procedures.
He must have record, if you put someone without capacity, I assure you that even if the Igbos have all political party to contest in, we won’t still make it, this is very important and so I support the move for Igbo presidency from an Igbo extraction.
“This is not about blackmail or defamation but about who is the rightful candidate to go there and grab the seat of power. Either by commission or omission, let the Igbos have it. We should be able to include how Igbos will speak with one voice”.
Sen Igbeke however, noted that for Igbos to have a leader that speaks for all, there is need for commitment, proper monitoring of activities, government of inclusiveness among others from such a person.
In his remark, the National President of the Association, Dr. Patrick Enuneku, reiterated that South -East should be involved in the presidential status of Nigeria for the country to enjoy the sweetness of democracy and dividends of politics, adding that the emergence of a president of Igbo extraction will bring atmosphere of decency in our democracy. He noted that it is time for the Igbos to provide answers to its numerous challenges facing the country.
Also speaking, Chairman, Planning and Strategic Committee of NFSEP, Hon. Anthony Dibor said the quest for South-East presidency was a valid agitation. Dibor equally noted that Igbo president will douse political, economic, cultural and religious tensions in different parts of the country.
