Two weeks after a policeman was killed at Okagwe Ohafia junction by unknown gunmen, a soldier has been killed at Owaza, Ukwa West LGA of Abia State by another group of unknown gunmen.

The incident which took place Sunday night at Oil-rich Owaza town of Abia State, involved some soldiers attached to the 14 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Ohafia who were at Owaza. The reason for the attack was not yet known but it was gathered that the soldiers were on duty before the attackers struck, killing a soldier instantly and wounding others.

Arms belonging to the officers were equally carted away by the attackers before fleeing. The injured army officer, according to a military source, is responding to treatment. It was also a bloody Sunday night at Azikiwe road, Aba when a group of gunmen stormed a police checkpoint and shot at the officers on duty, inflicting serious injuries on the officers.

A policeman and two of the attackers died in the Aba invasion. Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Geoffrey Ogbonna confirmed the incident disclosing that a suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident while investigations have commenced.

The PPRO was however, silent on the death of any policeman. Reacting to the attacks, Abia State Government, condemned the ugly development and ordered security agencies to arrest the perpetrators immediately. A statement by Chief John Okiyi Kalu, Abia’s Commissioner for Information, also urged the security agencies to recover all stolen arms.
