A political group, Ugwumba Youth Movement (UYM), has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against compromising 2023 election, reminding the commission that it owes citizens the obligation to hold credible poll that will reflect internal democracy, rule of law and constitutionalism with a view to bringing to fruition desired positive change and progress in the country for absolute peace and security.

The urge for INEC to conduct transparent poll in the 2023 elections to enable electorate elect good persons who will tailor good governance to meet needs of the people, was made by the National Coordinator of Ugwumba Youth Movement (UYM), Comr. Jeff Nwaoha, during a press conference, held on Wednesday, at Westbrook Hotel, Owerri.

“We would seize this opportunity to remind INEC that it owes Nigerians a duty to conduct free, fair and credible elections and we implore the commission to deliver on this mandate come 2023 general elections without compromise, fear or favour”, Nwaoha posited.

Nwaoha therefore advised youths across board who are eligible for election to register with INEC as to get their PVCs to vote in credible politicians to install internal democracy.”Similarly, we wish to encourage Nigerians especially fellow youths to go and get their Permanent Voters Card and join the impending ballot revolution, because our votes must surely count this time around owing to the new electoral laws”.

Nwaoha observed that “our collective interest towards 2023 journey is, by all ramifications, borne out of our desire to forming alliance and close ranks with any promising political party in the land, to ensure that we help install into positions of authority people that have the interests of the people and the nation at heart and who could practically ensure that peace, love, progress, justice, equity and fairness, as democratic virtues, are restored and domesticated for the common good of all and sundry. In due course, we shall make known our preferred candidates across board that we will support as we wait for directives from our leader, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu”.

Adding that UYM is “open for affiliation with other national and international youth bodies whose aim is geared towards the emancipation of the youth”, the group said “as law abiding citizens we support government at all level and pray for people in authority to succeed. We will continue to advocate for good governance, people oriented policies for viable social economic advancement, even as we call for partnership between government and people for progress and peaceful coexistence”.

He noted that “the birth of APC in 2014, our National Patron, Uche Nwosu, toured the nook and cranny of South East, galvanized, built support base for the party, but unfortunately and quite unrewarding, the party denied him guber ticket he won in 2019. In spite of this ill treatment, he was not deterred in galvanizing Imo youths for the presidential election victory of APC”.

The former Imo ENTRACO General Manager asserted that there is need for equity, justice, fairness in handling the affairs of political parties and the country in general, emphasizing that there is need for proper youths involvement, engagement in the leadership of the country. “It has become imperative this time around for us to be more strategic and carefully selective in the choice of candidates seeking our support in the forthcoming general elections.”
