A Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Vivian Ngozi Mmezi Humanitarian Foundation has distributed foods and clothes to the less privileged in Imo State, aimed at alleviating sufferings in the society.
Items distributed to beneficiaries included rolls of wrappers, tubers of yam, rice, noodles, tomatoes, vegetable oil and garri while some women received cash gifts.
The distribution was performed at Owerri municipal council secretariat, Imo State during the unveiling of the foundation and attracted cross section of the poor to the program.
Delivering her address, the secretary to Vivian Ngozi Mmezi Foundation, Barr. Constance Muoneke explained that the foundation had been in the business of wiping away the tears from the poor in the society, since it was registered.
According to Muoneke, orphans, widows, physically challenged, the elderly, the sick and prisoners have been benefitting from the foundation, adding that the foundation is extending the program to more communities.
The foundation’s secretary pointed out that their activities are childhood mission of Evangelist Vivian Ngozi Mmezi aimed at helping the poor around her, and appealed to the wealthy people in the country to emulate them in fighting poverty.
Earlier in his address, the husband to Vivian Ngozi Mmezi, Reverend Chinedu Mmezi noted that “there are many poor people in the country. The government cannot cater for everybody in the country and that is why my wife and I have stepped in to close the gap . Rich persons should help the needy. My wife is a lover of the poor and that is why she is in this project of lifting the poor,” he said. The Nkwerre-born philanthropist also prayed for a lasting peace in Imo State and Nigeria.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Lucy Nwadike who could not hide her joy, prayed God to replenish the wealth of the foundation for remembering the poor in the society.
Another beneficiary, Mr. Kenneth Anyanwu who spoke from his wheelchair described the foundation as God-sent. According to Anyanwu “we had no food since yesterday but a friend took me to this place and I thank God am going home with rice and garri”, he said.
Kinsman to Reverend Chinedu Mmezi, Chibuike Ihejiahi said the his community was proud of the foundation.
