Former Anambra state chapter Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Comrade Emma Ifesinachi have been elected the Vice President, South East Zone C.
Comrade Ifesinachi emerged as the Vice President, zone C during the 7th delegates conference of the union which was held in Umuahia, Abia State.
Speaking to News Echo shortly after the inauguration, Comr Ifesinachi expressing gratitude to God and the confidence imposed on him by members of the union assured that he will bring out the best to ensure the union move to greater heights.
According to the veteran, “part of my cardinal objective is to ensure there is unity in the union, whatever activity we are doing we will make sure we carry everybody along. I have events like summits, press week and other media events we are going to roll out. These will give us the platform of retraining our members.
“So there is need that we move at intervals to discuss the challenges of the union and proffer solutions to them as an evolving profession. We will also look at the areas of welfare and see that none of our members is left out. For that, we are committed to protecting and ensuring the safety of journalist in the zone”.
While calling on the security in the state to beef up their strategies towards ensuring the safety of lives and property of journalists in the state.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the National Credentials Committee, Garba Muhammad who declared the some of the winners charged them to work assiduously towards improving the objectives of the union.
Five Zonal Vice Presidents and Zonal Secretaries were also elected at the conference.
Other national officers who emerged unopposed included, the National President of NUJ, Chris Isiguzo who returned unopposed for another term in office, Yahya Al-hassan who emerged as Deputy National President and a former Vice President of B-Zone and ex-Ondo NUJ Chairman, Barrister Dele Atunbi of NTA, Abuja elected unopposed as National Treasurer.
Others are Samuel Dada of LTV, Lagos who emerged unopposed as the National Financial Secretary and Ladi Emmanuel who is now the new National Internal Auditor.
