Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has reiterated his administration’s commitment to improve the lives of retired Nigerian soldiers and families of fallen military men.
Ikpeazu who reaffirmed this during an interdenominational Church Service as to mark 2023 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration at St Peter’s Presbyterian Church, Umuahia, appreciated said all sacrifices and contributions of members of the Nigerian Army both living and dead.
He pointed out that the duties of protecting the territorial integrity of the Nigeria by members of the armed forces overemphasized would not be in vain.
The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu pointed out that special advises from retired soldiers were needed towards addressing series of insecurities bedeviling the nation.
Ikpeazu who lamented the effects of armed banditry, kidnappings, armed robbery, insurgency and other forms of criminality on the country, stressing that the ugly activities slowed down the pace of national development. He appealed to churches for more prayers for the progress of Abia State and the Nigerian nation.
In his sermon, the Moderator, St Peter’s Presbyterian Church, Umuahia, Rt. Rev Chinedu Okoroafor called for better welfare packages for the families of the nation’s fallen heroes and for those that are still alive. The church service was attended by the Commander, 14 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Ohafia, Brig. Gen. Adegoke Adetuyi, the Chairman, Nigerian Legion, Abia State Chapter, Commander Ambrose Nnabugwu (Rtd) and other personalities.
