The Enugu State House of Assembly Committee on works and infrastructure, housing and urban development has vowed to expose erring contractors as it embarks on project monitoring across the state.

The chairman of the committee, Hon. Chima Obieze who briefed newsmen on Tuesday on the proposed inspection tour stated that no bad contractor will be spared.

“The committee will expose any negligence, corruption, complicity, non-compliance and incompetence on the part of any contractor, government official or civil servant discovered during the oversight.

“It is our mandate as elected representatives of the people to ensure that they get the best and this is what we are out to ensure they get.

“We also know that the Governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is doing massive rural and urban development. So we are out to ensure that no contractor or complicit state worker sabotages his Excellency’s good intentions for Enugu people.

“After this tour, the contractors that have questions to answer shall be invited. Thereafter a detailed report shall be presented to the House for adoption as a working document for the state, with recommendations on the way forward”, he stated.

He explained that the committee will embark on a state wide project inspection/oversight which will commence from Monday 5 October 2020.

He called on the commissioner and entire staff of the ministry of works, the state project coordinator and staff of Rural Access Mobility Project (RAMP), the ALGON chairman and all local government council chairmen in the state, all contractors handling projects in state, members of the press and the general public to join in the tour.

“This is in line with the mandate and powers conferred on the state House of Assembly by virtue of section 128 & 129 of 1999 constitution at chapter 5, Part 2.”

The committee chairman warned that all contractors found wanting will be blacklisted as the committee has no plans to condone waste and mismanagement of tax payers’ money.
“The general public or anyone who has any useful information concerning any government project going on within your area or vicinity should notify the committee through the office of the chairman room 212, Enugu State House of Assembly Complex or reach the chairman on 08037505339″, Obieze further advised.
