The Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria has been charged to practice fair and objective journalism to help move the society forward.
Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Hon. Declan Emelumba, gave the charge when executive members of the group paid him a familiarization visit at his office in Owerri.
The Commissioner, who urged the group to always ensure it promotes and encourages balanced and objective reporting to strengthen journalism practice in the state, appreciated the association for being alive to its responsibilities, describing it as a unique body that requires encouragement from media practitioners.
He called on the association to use their platform to propose legislation before the National Assembly to make it see reasons as to solidify professionalism in journalism to maintain objectivity and factuality in the country.
Emelumba assured the group of his office’s readiness to help move the association forward to gain more success and accolades.
Earlier, the Imo State Chairman of ACSPN, Dr. Adeline Nkwam-Uwaoma, who led the group on the courtesy visit, had stated that the association was committed to advancing the study and practice of communication by promoting and facilitating excellence in academic research and professional practice in the state.
She noted that one of the aims of the body was to support the process of shaping communication scholarship, training and practice in Imo while complementing the work of other bodies with similar aims to build on the potential communication consciousness for critical inputs from communication scholars and professionals.
