An apex youth body in Imo State, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), says the newly signed electoral bill into law by President Mohammadu Buhari is a plus to the nation’s democracy, saying the decision by the President was well informed and timely taken.
The youth stated this through their Imo State Chairman of NYCN, Barr. Ezinwanne Chimunaya Udoka, while officially observing the Ngor-Okpala State Constituency Bye- election held last week, hinting that the regrets and crises experienced in the country given to imbalance of the Electoral Act will now be a thing of the past, describing the decision as democratic and constitutional that will favor all citizens.
The council mentioned that it is optimistic that the measure taken by the Presidency and the National Assembly will overtly encourage the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to even conduct free, credible and peaceful elections in the country, as well as spur politicians to uphold democratic tenets, rule of law and good governance.
“Imo youths under the supreme body of National Youth Council of Nigeria are hopeful that the Electoral Bill assented to law by President Mohammadu Buhari is a right step in the right direction, a decision well informed. It is indeed a plus to democracy. We commend the President and the Legislators for taken the bull by the horn to overhaul the electoral system to sooth the people and cause them to repose total confidence in INEC and urged politicians to maintain the standard in order to advance the country politically, socially and economically”.
