Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma has disclosed his desire to bring happiness to the hearts of average Owerri indigene by restoring the Ekeukwu Owerri and making it an international market.
The governor made this remark in his speech, during the ground breaking ceremony of the new Ekeukwu Owerri International Market at the market square, along Douglas Road, Owerri.
He recounted activities that led to the demolition of the market; The death, pains, agony and trauma people of Owerri, the ancestral owners of the market, all shop owners, traders and all Imolites who have one thing or the other to do with the market went through.
Uzodimma said the new market will accommodate the interest of all stakeholders; indigenes of Owerri ancestral community, the Owerri Local Governmnet Area and the state government.
The governor assured that the contracting firm handling the job was capable of delivering an international standard project within the specified time frame of eighteen months.
In another development, the governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma has constituted an investigative panel, headed by an erudite jurist, Hon. Justice Florence DuruohaIgwe to look into activities of the disbanded Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS).
He gave the committee mandate to investigate past activities by personnel of SARS to ascertain those who may have committed human rights abuses and recommend appreciate sanctions.
He urged the committee to throw its doors open and create a favourable atmosphere for all those who have suffered human rights abuses to come forward and present their cases.
