Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Friday Eboka has pleaded with retirees in the state not to occupy Government House in protest over years of unpaid pension arrears and gratuities.

News Echo reports that the protesting pensioners had commenced their protest from state Secretariat, matching towards Government House where they planned to occupy before the commissioner of Police intervened.

Some of the aggrieved pensioners including their coordinator, Lucky Ati told newsmen that they decided to protest against Rivers State Government for allegedly denying them their pension arrears and gratuities since inception of this administration.

The pensioners complained that their members are dying, while their children are being sent out of school and landlords evicting them from their apartments.

Commissioner of Police, Eboka who addressed the protesting pensioners pleaded with them to suspend the protest and promised to convey their message to Governor Wike for quick intervention

The protesting pensioners threatened to return to occupy the government house in two weeks if the government fail to do the right thing.
