The new commissioner for transport in Abia State, Chief Godswill Nwanoruo has been mandated to close all illegal motor parks in Umuahia and Aba and to designate routes for tricycle operators across the state.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu gave the order on Wednesday at the executive chamber of the government house, Umuahia, while swearing-in Nwanoruo and his counterpart in the ministry of environment, Chief Tony Nwanmuo.
Ikpeazu charged the new appointees to see their appointment as call to duty, service to God and the people of Abia State while urging them to work in line with his administration’s visions of transforming the state.

He faulted the sprouting of illegal motor parks in nooks and crannies of the State and charged the new commissioner to restore order to the transportation sector through the use of modern technologies.

The state Chief Executive also charged the new commissioner for environment, Chief Tony Nwanmuo to ensure the full realisation of some road projects initiated by NEWMAP under his predecessor, Ogunji and to ensure that the projects are completed, as the state government has paid up all counterpart funds needed for their completion.

The roads listed to benefit in the NEWMAP projects by the governor includes; Ngwa Road, Obohia Road, Ndiegoro Road, amongst other adjoining roads, while many drainages would also be cleared.

Similarly, Barr Eze Chikamnayo was sworn-in by the governor as the new Transition Committee Chairman of Umunneochi LGA, with a charge to deploy policies and strategies that could grow the economies of the local and state governments.

Responding, the appointees promised to hit the ground running.
