Imo State government has offered reasons why it refused to decorate Owerri, the state capital, in preparation for the yuletide.
Briefing journalists after the State Executive Council meeting, Wednesday, in Owerri, state Commissioner for Information, Declan Emelumba, revealed that the state was given a bill of N500 million for the decoration of the state.
Emelumba submitted that the Hope Uzodimma administration finds it unwise to sink such whopping amount in decoration when the state is bedeviled with deplorable roads.

He said the government would rather deploy the money to construction and rehabilitation of the roads.
“This is the time to work, this is the time to create wealth, that money can build some kilometers of roads, when we fix the roads, when water is running; we can now mount the lights”, he stated.

It is the first time in the last seven years, Owerri the state capital, would not be decorated during Christmas.
