Ahead of the forthcoming Anambra elections, Centre for Transparency and Advocacy, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), National Orientation Agency (NOA) and security agencies have said that all hands are to be on deck to ensure free, safe and credible election in the state.
The Director of Centre for Transparency and Advocacy, Princess Engr. Faith Nwadishi said the essence of the stakeholders meeting was to inform
the citizens about their preparedness for the election and also considering the situation on ground, to stick with security agencies.
“Citizens as chief executives of the state have the power to hire and fire. Over 2.5million Anambra citizens have registered and by virtue of that, they have become CEOs and this is the time to hire and fire.”
Deputy Commandant, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, DCC Kazzah Peter said that the Defence is ready to take responsibility of the electioneering period in Anambra. “Let us join forces with traditional rulers and carry them along in the things we do. All hands should be on deck during this election. Let us dialogue with these unknown gunmen so that we can hold a credible election in the state”.
Also speaking, DCC Kazzah Peter enjoined Anambra people to live up to their reputation as the best brains in the country and ensure that they vote in the best candidate. He informed that neighboring states would send 15000 personnel while the federal level would send 8000 personnel to ensure maintenance of law and order.
Assistant Corp Commandant of the Federal Road Safety, JC Nwokolo, representing the Anambra command said the road safety has a task for the state, staying that the command has done it in the past and will do it again.
Sir Samuel Chukwuemeka Tango representing the Chairman Anambra Vigilante Group, Chief Chinenye Ihenko (Okpompi) said they are at the grass root level for securing the lives and property of the people. He acknowledged the vigilante as a very strong security outfit that has fought crimes, covered elections in recent times. He noted that the presence of the vigilante will put an end to the issue of rigging during the election.
Appreciating the organizers, the State Director of National Orientation Agency, (NOA), Dr. Charles Nwoji, said that the role of NOA is to mobilise the electorate appropriately to participate in the electoral process by voting for the candidate of their choice and ensure their vote counts.
