Former leader of Buhari Youth Organisation, BYO, Beijing Chapter, Onyekwulunne Malvinho Chuka, has been declared wanted for allegedly being one of the sponsors of the first wave of #ENDSARS protest as well as the second wave of the protest which Nigerian security agencies are making efforts to nip in the bud.
Reliable sources from the security agencies has it that Mr Onyekwulunne was declared wanted having been spotted as one of those providing refreshments and other logistics for protesters.
It would be recalled that Mr Onyekwulunne was an ardent supporter of the Buhari administration and went as far as speaking out against top politicians who criticised President Mohammed Buhari.
In one of his press briefings published in a reputable news medium, September, 2018, he said that his group made up of over 2 million intellectual and patriotic Nigerians across the world had been watching with “great displeasure” the way the opposition party, People’s Democratic Party, PDP have continued to politicise the teething problems of the country most of which they caused.”
He called on all well meaning Nigerians to judge President Buhari by his results not by his deficiencies alleging that “The two former presidents together have not been able to achieve half of what President Buhari had been able to achieve in his tenure.”
In his words, “The only grouse these politricksters have with President Buhari is that he is a very transparent man. That is why they are hell-bent on vilifying him and giving wrong interpretations to his executive actions. But just like a well trained and disciplined man with focus, our dear president, Mohammad Buhari, has continued to take life easy and deliver on his promises slow and steady.”
However with the turn of events in the country in 2020, Mr Onyekwulunne made a 360 degree change from his earlier position retracting his support for Buhari and expressing disillusionment with the country.
He was quoted as saying that the cause of the Indigenous People of Biafra was the way forward. In an interview he granted Igbere TV in 2020, Mr Onyekwulunne said he had lost faith in Buhari government, especially given the nation’s unabated insecurity situation and economic recession.
He said, “I was very certain that God had indeed remembered Nigeria and that under Buhari regime, Nigeria and Nigerians would start wearing a more dignified look worthy of its status as the giant of Africa.
“But was I disappointed with the latest developments in this administration, that is an understatement. I have suddenly realised, after playing the ostrich for so long and inducing millions of young minds to do the same, that I had been deluded about President Buhari and the APC and that their agenda is more clannish than patriotic.”
