The Court of Appeal sitting in Enugu has ordered the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to pay the sum of N2 million as damages for unlawfully detaining and brutalising Mujeeb Fadeyi.
The judgement of the Court of Appeal panel led by Justice M. O. Bolaji Yussuf-Ali, is an affirmation of the earlier ruling of the federal high court on the matter.

It could be recalled that Fadeyi was arrested, stripped naked, tortured and brutalized by officers of NSCDC on January 9, 2008, and was later detained by the agency for six days at its office on 2/4 Works Road, New Market, Enugu.

Fadeyi subsequently dragged the NSCDC before the Federal High Court, Enugu, where he secured judgement.

On April 23, 2013, the Federal High Court presided over by Justice M. L. Shuaibu, delivered judgement and ordered the NSCDC to pay the sum of N2 million naira as damages to Mujeeb Fadeyi.

The NSCDC subsequently appealed against the judgment of the lower court, an application the Court of Appeal dismissed.
Reacting, Fadeyi’s counsel, Olu Omotayo, praised the Appeal Court justices for ‘serving justice’.
