Over 34 youth groups across various denominations and towns in Anambra State gathered on Thursday and declared their support for Obiora Okonkwo, candidate of Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), in the forthcoming Anambra governorship election.
The youths groups made their intentions known during a town hall meeting with Obiora in Awka, themed, ‘Political, Socio & Economic development of Anambra State’.
The youths had unanimously endorsed Dr. Okonkwo as the most influential, connected and prepared candidate that can pull the state out from the quagmire of economic hardship to the pedestal of economic growth and development.
The youth groups who spoke in their numbers expressed disappointment at the performances of the previous administrations and said that time has come to change the narrative and to elect capable leader that would not only pilot the affairs of the state but also turn around the fortune of the people.
Speaking during the event, Dr. John Nwabueze, youth leader, coalition of Anambra youth organisation and founder, Fresh and Better Life Africa Foundation said “we have gathered ourselves as youths to change the narrative which can be done with our PVC to the rightful candidate which is Dr. Okonkwo”.
He urged the youths to change the narrative in the state by massively voting for the right candidate that would take care of their needs.
A youth leader, Mr. Steven Agar bemoaned the rate of insult on the Nigerian youth. Time has passed when they use more words to woo our rights and votes while adding that time has gone when politicians used palatable words to deceive the youths and subject them to perpetual sufferings.
A youth leader, Mr. Stephen Okeke, equally frowned at the terrible state of roads in the state, especially the Awka- Amansea old road, which had put the citizens, residents in the state to undue sufferings and informed the people that it is only Dr. Okonkwo who has the wherewithal to assuage the sufferings of Ndi Anambra.
The convener of the meeting, Comrade Uchechukwu Paul, said Okonkwo has connections and his antecedents speak volume of the impact he would make if elected the governor.
Earlier at the event, the ZLP Anambra chapter chairman, Comrade Uche Ugwoji, who represenred the party’s flag-bearer, Dr. Obiora Okonwko urged the people to shun vote buying and ensure that the credibility of the ZLP are chosen wisely to present a candidate without a focus.
Looking at the numerous developmental achievements and connection, he said Okonkwo is the best man for the job, while calling on all and sundry to support the candidate.
