A former Governorship candidate in Rivers state, Prince Tonye Princewill has cautioned politicians to put their ego aside and argue beyond what he called artificial boundary like party politics, tribal, religion and social standing.
Princewill who is a chieftain of the APC said this following a statement released by the Rivers state chapter of the PDP condemning him for advising Rivers state Governor Nyesom Wike not use the fight against illegal oil bunkering to witch hunt opposition party members into joining the PDP as well to pay more attention to unemployment which he said is the main reason why young people are engaged in illegal oil bunkering activities.
Reacting to the criticism, the APC chieftain insisted that if he wants to get it right he should tackle the illegal oil refinery activities from the root cause and stop playing politics with the fight. He said more attention must be paid to create an atmosphere to attract more industries and businesses to the state.
“Is it better to be loyal to jeeps and give them flyovers or be loyal to our many youths and women and give them a means of livelihood? These are the questions. I suggest we do all of the above and more, but give priority to the women and youths and spread development.
While assuring PDP members that the next governor will not discriminate against them, he also encouraged them to love their state far more than they love their party.
“Think about your children and the children they will have to face. I’ve refused to abuse Wike, not because I cannot. All the angels know Wike has plenty of faults. Princewill said the state must be made conducive for people who want to bring in their money to invest in Rivers and that they need to feel welcome.
The APC Chieftain who further argued against politics to smear your brother expressed optimism that there will be a change of approach, but that it may not come over night.
