The Anambra State Chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) has debunked the ongoing rumour that the former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), governor, Professor Charles Soludo has been anointed as consensus candidate by the state executive of the party, while cautioning agents of confusion to steer clear.
Speaking to newsmen in a press briefing organised by the party to address the trending social media war between the party aspirants and their media aides, which was held at the party Secretariat Awka, on Tuesday, the party chairman said APGA in Anambra, Sir Norbert Obi said that they have observed for some time now that, aides to aspirants contesting the November 6, governorship election under the party platform, has been engaging each other abusively to buy the minds of delegates ahead of its primaries, slated for June, 2021, noting that the party could no longer fold its arms and watch them de-market the APGA that have been in power for good sixteen years in the state.
He disclosed that Soludo will also go for the primaries as others, who also aspire to take over from governor Willie Obiano in March next year.
He said Soludo, following governor Obiano to wherever he goes, is for his personal interest and had nothing to do with the electoral process of the party.
“APGA is a peaceful political party in the state and has been in control of the Governance of Anambra state since 2006. Within this period, we have witnessed four major governorship elections, that is, Peter Obi’s first and second tenure election, the incumbent governor Willie Obiano’s first and second tenure election and none of these elections was characterized with campaign of calumny, mudslinging and physical attacks on fellow aspirants through their media teams within the party as we are witnessing now”, he added.
He hinted that very soon the party will summon a meeting with all the aspirants to address them on the level of preparedness the party has put in place ahead of it primaries and election proper.
He said ‘Again, those social media aides or warriors who have made themselves the mouthpiece of the party without any authorisation or permission should desist from such acts because they are insulting the party and also risking our chances in this forthcoming governorship election in the stat’.
