The Anambra State House of Assembly has passed the 2022 Appropriation Bill in the tune of one hundred and forty one billion, nine hundred and sixty nine million, three hundred and sixty nine thousand, seven hundred and eighty four naira for the services of the Anambra State Government for the year ending 31 December 2022.
This was sequel to the adoption and consideration of the report brought before it by the Chairman House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Pharmacist Obinna Emenaka during plenary on Thursday in Awka.
The bill was presented to the House on Thursday 14th October 2021 by Governor Willie Obiano and has successfully passed through all the processes of lawmaking.
Presenting the report, Chief Emenaka described the budget as a budget for economic prosperity, consolidation and continuity, for which the incoming Governor, Prof Charles Soludo will consolidate upon, taking into cognizance the legacy projects executed by the outgoing administration of Chief Willie Obiano.
He said even though the budget size remained the same, the Finance Committee made few adjustments from observable findings made during the budget defence.
The Committee suggested that funds should be released to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) for optimum budget performance while proper scale of preference be adopted by same MDAs to achieve a realistic budget.
According to the committee report made available by Pharm. Emenaka, the list of roads to be constructed in 2022 should be contract-specific and shall cut across the 21 local government and constituencies.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Uche Okafor after putting the Bill to voice vote, read it for the third time and passed it.
