The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Anambra state has called on the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as well as the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) to immediately withdraw from the November 6 Anambra governorship election, as they do not have valid candidates for the election.
The party equally noted that about seven minority political parties contesting the election have agreed to adopt Dr. Obiora Okonkwo as their consensus candidate to actualize the collective interest of Anambra people at the poll.
Publicity Secretary, Anambra ZLP Campaign Council, Mr. Afam Dozie Ofomata who disclosed this on Wednesday while speaking to newsmen at the party’s Secretariat, Awka, in preparation for the party campaign flag-off, said it will be of benefit to the electorates and to actualize the collective interest of the people at the elections.
According to Ofomata, the PDP, APGA and APC mismanaged their nomination processes, leading to invalid candidates, endless litigations, bitter in-fighting, confusion and inability to forge a direction.
The ZLP party said “it is particularly not surprised at the collapse of the PDP governorship campaign structure, as the leaders, critical stakeholders and foot soldiers of the party in Anambra have now abandoned its candidate, Valentine Ozigbo, having realized that his candidacy, which did not meet the statutory nomination requirements cannot fly”.
“In the case of APC, the statement described the move as a futile venture given the recent Supreme Court verdict which directed to the illegality of the Governor Mai Mala Buni-led APC national leadership, a development that technically invalidated the nomination of Senator Andy Ubah as candidate for the election”.
In the same vein, “the party said that APGA do not have a valid candidate as the nomination of Prof. Charles Soludo has also failed elementary statutory requirements, including irreversible inaccuracies and inconsistencies that have flawed the entire nomination process”.
“Ofomata said in the coming days, the ZLP will commence a vigorous enlightenment campaign ahead of the elections. “In that regard, the leadership of the party has concluded arrangements to relocate our entire structure, including the national machinery to Anambra state to ensure that nobody robs Anambra of their desired collective victory with Okonkwo on the platform of the ZLP”.
He further informed the people of Anambra State that arrangements have been concluded with the key stakeholders in the state as well as the seven minority parties on the use of the ZLP as a coalition platform to actualize the collective interest of the people at the November 6 elections. During the media chart, Mr. Afam Dozie Ofomata was officially announced as the spokesperson of the ZLP Campaign Council.
