Anambra Govt set to build ultra-modern international market

Anambra State Government has concluded plans with a Private firm to build an Ultra-Modern International Market at Isiagu in Awka South Local Government Area.
Speaking to Newsmen in Awka, Governor Willie Obiano assured that the State government will play her role by constructing an access road to the project site, adding that with the presence of a financier, the Market will be completed on schedule.

The Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu who represented the Governor disclosed that the market, which is expected to house 10,000 shops on an expanse of land of about 20.8 hectares will be under the Private Public Partnership arrangement.

Obiano said on completion the Market will be first of its kind in the Sub-Saharan Africa with a design to have modern facilities like internet connectivity, access roads, hospitals, schools, commercial banks, Flyover Bridge and basement.

The Chairman of the firm, Chief Jude Amuzie, explained that the Market was designed to provide unique features in making Market transactions easier and faster under conducive atmosphere.
Amuzie disclosed that the Market structure will be completed in phases, explaining that seventeen buildings with one hundred and twenty lock-up shops each will be ready for use by April, 2021.

He commended Governor Willie Obiano for the confidence reposed in the firm and appealed to the state government to assist by providing an access road to the site to ease movement of machines and equipment.
Spokesperson of the partnering commercial bank, Mr. Anayo Nwosu, described the ultra-modern market as a gateway to other projects that will promote the economic prospects of Anambra State and assured that the Bank is committed to the project.

Also speaking, the traditional ruler of Isiagu, Igwe Augustine Nwankwo, expressed joy on the development and assured of his community’s support for the progress of the project.
Also present were the Commissioner for Commerce, Mr. Uchenna Okafor, his counterpart in Housing and Urban Renewal, Mr. Michael OKonkwo, and Managing Director of the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, Venerable Amaechi Okwuosa.
