The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has said that it will only recognize and work with eighteen political parties in the Anambra State governorship election slated for November 6.
A statement signed by its National Commissioner and Chairman Voter Education, and Publicity Committee, Mr. Festus Okoye, urged the seventy four deregistered political parties to await the judgment of the Supreme Court relating to the powers of the commission to deregister political parties before engaging in any political activity.
According to the statement, the Commission is always ready to obey Court orders and will abide by any judgment delivered by the Supreme Court adding that the statement became necessary owing to various letters submitted to the Commission recently by some of the deregistered political parties signifying their intention to conduct primaries with a view to submitting names and particulars of candidates for the Anambra State gubernatorial election.
