Members of AfaIgboBuOfu Movement, a politically oriented group in Anambra have joined alliance with All Progressive Congress (APC) to ensure victory for the party’s candidate, Andy Uba come November 6 gubernatorial election.
The event which took place at the Hollywood centre in Awka on Thursday had state coordinators, local government and ward executives including members in attendance who came to pay allegiance to Sen. Andy Uba.
Addressing the party faithful and members, AfaIgboBuOfu national leader and founder Hon. Onyedika Chukwuma said the time is ripe for Anambra voters to regain their rightful place at the centre.
He called on Anambrarians to support APC and witness a newer and better Anambra that will improve the physical infrastructure of the state that is largely in a shadow of its own.
Chukwuma however directs that all members of AfaIgboBuOfu should start identifying themselves with the party across the 326 wards in Anambra to pick their APC party membership cards.
Nevertheless, “Our decision to endorse APC as against our former party APGA is not just informed by our party APC being the ruling party at the national level in Nigeria but because of the party’s readiness to redress and improve for better. Although it’s also very instrumental to connect to the centre because Anambra in all sincerity needs to be reconnected in the comity of national politics. We have whipped up sentiments for too long but the facts are there and very glaring for all to see that APGA has lost grip of her glory days in the last few months by allowing the cabals to ruin and run down the party”.
In his own remarks, the State Secretary, Hon. Solomon Onwusika noted that the group’s intention to pitch AfaIgboBuOfu under APGA was to encourage good governance in Anambra and Igbo land but it’s most unfortunate that all those shared dreams for Anambra could not be achieved under the current APGA platform as its leadership continued to create more problems for the party and indeed all Anambrarians.
“Regrettably, it became very obvious that all the founding principles of APGA are no more and that all the sincere efforts made to save the dying horse continued to be fruitless. It therefore became imperative that we have a rethink in order to save Anambra from returning to the old ways where only a few number of persons decide for the state”.
He further asserted that as foot soldiers of the party and the largest grass root based support group in Anambra State, “we will promote and encourage the intention of our amiable candidate to win the race.
Also speaking, APC gubernatorial candidate, Andy Ubah said he is desirous to see Anambra become a better state. He noted that his mandate seeks most to cover areas of security, education and infrastructure to the development of the state while thanking the group for their unalloyed support to the party.
National Director Media & Publicity, AfaIgboBuOfu, Ikedinobi Johnhilary Rapuluchukwu in his own view said the political party’s ability to perform is largely strengthened by the caliber, character, quality and credibility of her leadership and members.
