Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, CP Friday Eboka has wadded into the blockage of the main entrance of headquarters of the Niger Delta Development Commission by Contractors.
The contractors blocked the gate to demand for the payment of the contracts they have executed in the commission since four years.
CP’S intervention came four days after the aggrieved NDDC contractors blocked the gate of the commission, preventing staff access to their offices.
The protesting contractors of NDDC mounted tents, and have now resulted to cooking at the front of the main entrance gate of NDDC before the commissioner of police summon the leaders of the protesters where he pleaded with them to allow staff gain access to the premises.
One of the aggrieved NDDC contractors, RICHARD DEEKAE who spoke to News Echo at the end of the meeting with CP said they will only allow staff access to the offices, if they received positive response from their representative who were invited to a meeting in Abuja.
DEEKAE expressed concern that after executing contract given to them by the NDDC, four years after, they are yet to receive their payment, threatening that they will remain at the protest site until they received payment for the job they did.
