Nigeria’s former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has urged Nigerians not to treat with kid gloves, the allegation made by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) that over 139 Igbo youths have been airlifted from Obigbo, Rivers State to a military camp in Northern Nigeria.
Fani-Kayode who was reacting to the words and statement of the leader of IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu on the said issue, stressed that it is high time Nigerians accorded seriousness to the allegations and called for investigation.
Reacting via his Twitter handle, Fani-Kayode wrote, “It is time for us to consider the grave allegation that hundreds of Igbo youths are being arrested & airlifted from #Oyigbo in Rivers State to concentration camps in the North where they are being unlawfully detained, tortured and killed.
“If this is true, it is deeply troubling and it MUST stop. It is not a crime to be Igbo. Those that turn a blind eye to these atrocities and massive violations of the most basic human rights are complicit in the crime.
“You do not have to be Igbo to feel the pain that the people of Oyigbo are going through or the injustice that they are being subjected to: all you have to be is human”.
He stressed that no matter how someone feels about Nnamdi Kanu, the allegations that he has made concerning Obigbo are grave and worthy of investigation and enquiry.
“Those that say we should not ask such questions, that dispute Nnamdi’s version of events without investigation and that insist that we should act as if nothing untoward or unacceptable is going on in Obigbo are cruel and insensitive”, he said.
IPOB had said that most of the people taken away have been identified by their real names while a minor number can be identified with their popular nicknames
The pro-Biafra group released names of 139 persons of Igbo origin allegedly airlifted from Obigbo down to a military camp in Northern Nigeria for torture and execution.
In a statement signed by Kanu himself, IPOB leader accused Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State of being responsible for the alleged ‘Igbo genocide’ currently going on in the state.
