A notable politician and two unnamed musicians have been accused by the Abia State Government of plotting to destabilize the state through sponsorship of civil unrest.
This alarm was raised on Saturday October 17 in Umuahia, by Chief John Okiyi Kalu, Abia State Commissioner for Information, in reaction to the ongoing nationwide #EndSARS demonstrations, which is slated to be held in a certain Abia city on Monday.
Excerpts of the release by the Commissioner read: “Abia State Government has uncovered plots hatched by a certain politician in the state to hijack the peaceful agitation of #EndSARS protesters and turn it into a political tool to attempt to get what he could not get, using the constitutional means of the ballot box.”
“The Abia State Government is aware of the funding and mobilization of at least two Abia-born musicians who are resident outside the state to provide cover for those who will be brought in from Monday to attack government establishments, under the guise of protesting against the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad(SARS)”, Okiyi said.
Abia government also alleged that some broadcast media practitioners and bloggers had been recruited to incite Abians into war against the state government.
The state government further alerted that one man , simply identified as Nwosu had been funded by a sponsor to cause mayhem in Abia, warning that security agencies had been mandated to identify fake protesters for questioning, assuring that only genuine ones were free to embark on the planned protest.
